Breaking news – sorta

What’s good!

It certainly has been a hot minute since the last update. The fellas have naturally been grindin’, working on music and rinsing that fuelgoodmusic on the regular. If you follow us on Twitter or Facebook – individually or collectively – then you’re in the loop & have been keeping up with the movements.

A major focus for the team has been our weekend residency at Bar Italia. As you know, we are spinning there from Thursday to Saturday. Each night has a specific focus but the format remains the Ultimately, fuelgoodweekends is a signature residency where we showcase what we have come to be known for – that fuelgood sh!t, son.

Thursdays: Maverik One
Fridays: Quadratik
Saturdays: Bruce Lord

It is not uncommon to see variations on each night with all three regularly playing alongside each other with appearances by Premium Plus, Jay Boogie and DJ Rahdil, as well. Speaking of Rahdil, you can catch him on the Streetz 107.9 weekly boat cruise on Thursday nights, as well as at Republic on Saturday nights.

If you were wondering what’s been happening with fuelgoodradio, which aired Fridays from 12 midnight – 2 a.m., there will be a slot change within the next three weeks. The biggest challenge was the fact that everyone is always booked to play on Friday nights, which is why we were prerecording the show. With the new slot, we will all be in the studio live!

One last thing…Break4Bread/DGC 10th year anniversary is approaching! It’s going down August 18 at Sisler High School and will feature special guest judge B-Boy Ronnie (Red Bull BC One All-Stars, Supercrew), the 2-on-2 All-Styles battle as well as Maverik One providing the beats and breaks! For more info, search for the event page on Facebook.

OK, that’s a wrap for now. Keep us bookmarked, follow us on Twitter (@bunDOWN) or Facebook (bundownSOUNDSYSTEM)

Pyramid getting plugged

Maseo aka Plug 3 returns Sept 23.

We’re really excited for the return of this DJ/producer legend for a ne’er before seen back-to-school jammy jam! He rocked snotboxes galore on his last visit with a mix of classic and contemporary rap, funk, soul, house and disco so if you missed out, this is your chance to get down with the Maseo experience! If that weren’t ’nuff, we’ve also brought on our homey DJ HUNNICUTT into the mix to guarantee that this rumble cannot be clocked!

Advance tix are $10 & available at Kustom Kulture, Into The Music and The Urban Bakery. Door admission is $15.

Presented by Pyramid Cabaret, CJUM 101.5FM and Bundown.

STUDIO54:
Disco vs Hip Hop

Jay Boogie
Quadratik

with special guest
Brent Phillips

A signature fave returns to debut a new nightlife option!

The Studio54 concept has rocked dance floors throughout Western Canada since its debut in 2007 and it returns with special guest Brent Phillips, who last played with BSS at the inaugural Thriller Halloween party.

For this go-round, we’ve remixed Studio54 into a Disco vs Hip Hop theme, with Q and Boogz holding down the soundtrack of Hip Hop culture and Brent carrying the flag for classic and contemporary disco.

Equally exciting is the debut of Marquee Lounge & Event Centre and the first ever monster collab with Ali Entertainment! The latest addition to Winnipeg’s nightlife scene takes over the space formerly held by Dylan O’ Connor’s, 1875 Pembina Hwy and is one of south Winnipeg’s most popular venues.

Summer brings nightlife options

Bundown offers varied menu for the season.

For the summer of 2011, the boys have got a number of weekly offerings as well as big events to ensure that your summer is filled to the brim with fuelGOODmusic!

First off, there are four weekly residencies you definitely want to reach:
Charles’ Gallery marks the return of the hip hop night we did at The Lo Pub and continues in the same vein as we celebrate hip hop culture, its various elements and special guest DJs and MCs dropping the finest rap joints this side of NYC. CG takes place every Tuesday at Bar Italia, 737 Corydon.

G.O.O.D. Thursdays was inspired by a certain MC/producer’s weekly download offerings and is a multi-genre night which allows us to take you all over the urban music spectrum: classic and contemporary house, soul, funk, disco and rap to jumpstart your weekends off right at Bar Italia.

Stylistic Fridays is all about unwinding from a week’s work inside one of the Exchange’s newest nightspot offerings, Boa Lounge, 177 Lombard, with music selections that take you anywhere from the latest fist-pumping house remixes to timeless dancefloor joints in a swanky space.

Calculated Soul has found a new home inside The Loft Gastropub, 774 Corydon, the latest entry into the Corydon strip’s nightlife, and continues to deliver that soul and funk vibe – with generous servings of disco and house – for a mature clientele. If you were a regular at Lobby On York then this definitely is the night for you every Saturday.

We’re also going to be a part of two big fetes on Saturday, June 25:

Summer Whiteout Patio Party is going down at Moxie’s Classic Grill at the MTS Centre, 300 Portage. To get the mood started for the upcoming NHL and summer seasons, we’re paying homage to the Winnipeg-bred “whiteout” and going outdoors! There will be prizes for the top 2 sexiest “Whiteoutfits” courtesy of Luxe + Charm and Unfold Apparel! The patio will be open from 4:00pm-way past dark.

BOOYA! marks our first ever collaboration with Refresh Concepts: an all-90s theme party consisting of all your favourite rap, R&B and dancehall joints from labels like Uptown, Bad Boy, LaFace, Rowdy, Greensleeves, VP and more! BOOYA! will make over Mystique Nightclub, 441 Main St, into Cloud 9 for one night only!

Set the alerts on your iPhones and Blackberrys, folks!

See ya on the dancefloor,
BSS

In the studio

Signature discofete returns.

Studio54, our big bang discoparty will be returning this Thursday, April 21 inside the Exchange’s hottest new nightspot, 6 Degrees Martini Bar & Wine Lounge – the same venue that was rocked by M*O*V*E two weeks ago.

This time around, QUADRATIK and JAY BOOGIE will be joined by fellow music lover & breaks musicologist MAVERIK. His pedigree can’t be fronted on – he’s a member of local b-boy heroes, DANGEROUS GOODS CREW. Naturally, The Godfather, LUCIOUS, will be the firestarter for each choon.

Boogz to open for Raekwon
Wu meets Bundown.

As announced in our last post, Jay, DJ CO-OP and FILTHY ANIMALS will be opening for the Winnipeg stop of Shallah Raekwon’s Shaolin Vs Wu-Tang tour. It’s going down this Saturday, April 23 at Pyramid Cabaret.

$25 advance tickets are available at Kustom Kulture, The Urban Bakery and ticketworkshop.com. Door admission is $30 for 18+ patrons.

Plug tune in

De La Soul’s Maseo to play Pyramid.
The cat’s finally out of the bag.

As mentioned in previous posts and Twitter blasts, we have been sitting on a show that we’ve been dying to announce and so without further ado, we are proud to announce that MASEO aka Plug 3 will be gracing the stage of the Pyramid on April 16.

He will be joined by QUADRATIK, JAY BOOGIE, OFIELD K, LUCIOUS and special guest LONNIE CE (THE LYTICS, Grippin’ Grain).

Advance tickets are $10 and will be available at The Urban Bakery (shout out to Kev!) and door admission is $15.

******

At the same time, don’t forget that DJ TAKTIKS will be our special guest at M*O*V*E this Saturday, April 9 at The Orbit Room! Taktiks has been holding down Toronto’s CKLN 88.1FM for a minute now with his Mixtape Massacre radio show. He’s a true music lover and he can always be found spinning at clubs, lounges and parties in the GTA. Last year, he played Bar Italia alongside Quadratik and left a lasting impression! Ofield will also be holding down Calculated Soul Live at Lobby On York, so you’ve got a double BUNDOWN flex this Saturday!

Studio54 is also fast approaching and will take place inside 6 Degrees Martini Bar & Wine Lounge on Good Thursday, April 21! We’ll be welcoming back our homey MAVRIK (Dangerous Goods Crew) on the decks that night, as well! Word is spreading and folks are anticipating a night of disco from the 70s to nu disco!

Finally, if you don’t already know about the RAEKWON show on Saturday, April 23 at the Pyramid, then we should inform you that the show will be opened by FILTHY ANIMALS, DJ CO-OP and our very own Boogz! Rae is touring to support the release of the latest Wu banger, Wu-Tang vs Shaolin, which you should cop immediately via your fave music source!

That’s it for now…see ya on the dancefloor!

P.S. A new addition to the BUNDOWN fam will be making his debut in the near future…;)
