J. Dilla‘s formerly shelved MCA album is finally going to see the light of day with an official release via Mass Appeal.
Originally slated for a 2002 release, The Diary is James Yancey’s first full solo release.
Welcome to Detroit, which dropped in 2001 on BBE, was more of a production showcase featuring regular collaborators like Frank-N-Dank, Phatkhat and Dwele.
Frank-N-Dank also appear on The Diary on a previously released joint, The Anthem, which differs sonically from the original, offering another perspective on a classic Dilla banger.
There are two guests on The Diary who you have never heard on an official Dilla record: Snoop Dogg and Nas, the latter whom also happens to have launched Mass Appeal’s music division.
The Diary (Mass Appeal) will be officially released tomorrow on MP3, CD and vinyl formats via iTunes, Rappcats, Mass Appeal.
