Who will emerge as 2009’s best local dance/b-boy crews?
Winnipeg’s Best Dance Crew will be returning for another year at this year’s Driven Auto Culture Show on July 25 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.
Our esteemed panel of judges from last year will be returning, as well, to help us find this year’s champions in the Hip Hop and B-Boy/B-Girl categories:
Boobjester is unquestionably one of the city’s b-boy ambassadors and as a member of Dangerous Goods Crew continues to represent and teach b-boy culture in Winnipeg. He recently celebrated DGC’s seven year anniversary, served as a judge at the Break 4 Bread 10 year anniversary battle and was named an Absolut Canadian B-Boy/B-Girl Award winner.
Dammecia Hall is the driving force behind Define Movement, the One Love dance showcase, as well as the DM bootcamp sessions featuring some of the world’s best choreographers. She also recently appeared in Grand Analog‘s Her Daddy (Don’t Like Me) video.
Cyrile Ong is the owner of Shopgirl, one of the city’s finest boutiques, and a strong supporter of WBDC and the city’s dance scene.
There will be a $500 prize for both the Hip Hop and B-Boy/B-Girl categories.
The Hip Hop category will have a maximum of eight crews and each crew will have a maximum of eight dancers. The format will be the same as last year with one exception. Crews will now be given the surprise track THREE DAYS IN ADVANCE of the competition along with a “challenge task” that must be incorporated into their set. Last year, crews were advised that they would be given a track to provide choreography for two hours before the Semi-final round – if they made it past the Showcase round. The Final round will still consist of a crew vs crew You Got Served– style battle combining choreography sets and freestyle.
The B-Boy/B-Girl category has also changed. Instead of a Battle Of The Year-style crew battle, it will be a 3-on-3 battle with a maximum of 10 crews.
To register your Hip Hop or B-Boy/B-Girl crew, you must send a 150 word bio, colour .jpg file of your crew (minimum 300dpi) and list of crew members to bundown@bundown.com by SAT JULY 11.
All Hip Hop crews will submit a $40.00 registration fee when they received the second round track and “challenge” task and all B-Boy/B-Girl crews will submit a $20.00 registration fee on the day of the event.
There will be an official afterparty at Republic Nightclub immediately following WBDC with VIP access & a WBDC VIP section cordoned off in the Embassy Lounge.
This year is going to be even more explosive than last year!
